Why do I list to starboard

Post by REBMystic »

Hi Folks,

My 2001 31 TE with twin yanmars lists a little bit to starboard when at rest. My black water tank is stbd, but I still list when it's empty. Anyone else experience this?

My water tank is pretty much centerline under the aft bunk, right between the stringers. Waste is aft stbd.

My 28 flush deck lists a tiny bit to starboard. You can't tell by looking at it, but the starboard side gutter always has 2x the amount of debris,

I relocated my battery located under the helm seat to the centerline in a new battery box. Problem solved

I have the exact same situation with an identical boat. Even with the weight of the generator on the port side, I have the same list regardless of black water tank holdings. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I have figured out how to manage it effectively on the 31. We have 3 tanks across the aft of the boat. When fueling, I shut my port side tank and leave it be. I bring the middle and starboard tanks to 3/4 & then I top off the port side with fuel. At the end of the weekend, I open the valve until it's sitting level and close it. Before I roll over to the fuel dock I open them all up to let it mix so I am always adding fresh fuel at fill up time. It isn't as big of a pain as it sounds and it sure beats adding weight to the port side.
