Post by packham »

Hi there, Has anyone replaced their cutlass bearing on A27? If so can you advise where you purchased the bearing and also any tips on the replacement process? Thanks, Roger

I purchased a nylon type piece of stock and had my local machine shop turn it to my specifications.

I may have some of the stock left and/or the supplier I purchased it from.

I replaced mine this summer. I'll try to remember to bring my maintenance binder home this weekend and see if I have a record of where the bearing came from.

Must the prop shaft be removed on A27 in order to replace the cutlass bearing?

Can’t imagine doing it with out removing as you will need to push it out from the inside where there is no room to do anything!
Possibly clamp a pair of clam shells to the shaft inside and then use the flange on the shaft to press then on the bearing and use it as a sort of slide hammer , or just remove shaft (!) and cut the bearings from inside and peel it out .
Nightmare of Job either way.
I wonder how the OP made our???
A job I’m not looking forward to
