Made the plunge... Awlgrip it is...

I have beening going back and forth with whether to have the hull given a good wet sand and buff or awlgrip. I needed to have the boat pulled for bottom painting as it has been a while and started talking about the alternatives, costs, and maintenance of the hull. The boat is 10 years old and the hull is badly faided. After seeing a couple of awlgrip jobs and talking to a friend, who just happened to be around the day the boat was hauled, with his boat that was Awlgripped, I was convinced. Anyway, I will post before and after pictures when the job is completed.

They are stripping the bottom complety as the paint is just peeling off. I bought the boat when it was 5 years old and I'm pretty sure that had never been done. That along with the Awlgrip job and it's going to be about 3 weeks before all is said and done. Maybe shorter but I am not rushing them as I want the paint to cure and harden well before I pick it up. The boat was sanded and then primed, It is currently a dull grey, doesn't look to bad actually,

I'm also replacng my side air vents and after searching around some I found them here:

These are the exact replacements for the ones I have on my 1999 Albin 28.

I think all would agree that Awlgrip is the way to go for the long term.

The Wife and I went to take a look at the boat and check on the progress.

Hull is primed and bottom has been completely striped down to the jell coat. Bottom must have had original paint on it still. A couple of pictures,

That almost hurts my eyes its so bright! Was it a problem to maintain the white boot stripe?

With the original there was never a problem with the boot stripe, let see how this one goes.

Paul, long time since this was a topic, but I've just acquired a TE and the awlgrip is the big project for over the winter. Do you recall which color this is? I think it's Vivid Red on the awlgrip chart, but it could be sunfast.

Capt Paul: It has been awhile since you did the new paint. Have heard really good things about awigrip for redo painting. In fact most feel it is better than the original paint. So long as it hold up against the dock and bumps we get moving in and out of the slips and gas docks you could not ask for more. Love your color Red and matchng bottom.
Was the boat red from the start. Your price for the redo paint looks really good as well. Numbers I have heard are 7500-10,000. so you did well.
