Good day to all,
Newbie/1st post on here. I have an offer in on a 28 TE, the boat will need all new mooring lines, anchor rode, and fenders. I was shopping around for spools of double braided nylon (yes, I can splice it) and I started to see most folks are using 3 strand or 8 plait for the windless. I have never used a windless for anchoring, but wondering why DBN isn't used. Possibly because the throat of the splice will be too large for the whelps in the wildcat? I know you can't use a thimble, but is a properly tapered splice into a chain link still to bulky? I'm figuring 1/2" line into 1/4" G4 chain.
Thanks in advance!

Re: 8 plait or double braid nylon
Your safest best on the windlass is to check the manual and follow those instructions to a T. Anything different is likely to lead to a disappointing windlass experience.
Some of our windlasses (Simpson Lawrence and Lewmar) over the years have speced either 3-strand or 8-plait. We've always used 3-strand for ease (well, I use that word in a relative sense

Re: 8 plait or double braid nylon
Gotcha. It's a Lewmar and it says 3 strand or 8-plait.
I was just hoping to just a late spool of 1/2" DBN for everything, to keep it simple. But I guess I'll go with the recommend 8-plait.
Thanks
