I just called an made my reservation for the evenings of 22/23 July. Will probably head to Block on the 21st and then run over on the 22nd. Depends on the weather of course. Hard to believe I'm thinking about this with two feet of snow on the ground!

This will be our first... yes, yes on Coecles either way. We probably prefer the flexibilty of the marina. How do we book it? Reel McCoy 28TE out of Mt Sinai (formerly Southold)

I JUST READ THAT THE / NIGHT MARINA DOCKAGE IS $140. WITH THE UNKNOWN FUEL PRICE THIS SUMMER AND OUR COMING FROM RARITAN BAY, IT COULD BE VERY PRICY. WHAT IS THE COST OF A MOORING? IF IT COULD BE ARRANGED, WE ALSO MIGHT ANCHOR OR RAFT UP TO SAVE SOME MONEY FOR THE REST OF THE TRIP.

I WOULD APPRECIATE SOME COMMENTS.

Hi Dan,

Please don't type postings in ALL CAPS. Unless you're really shouting! :)

From the marina web-site:

MOORING $1.50/ft per day, ($45 minimum charge)

They may discount that based on your coming in with a group. Give them a call, let us know what you find.

Coecles Harbor has very good holding ground in the anchorage, which (unfortunately for this event) is on the opposite end if the harbor from the Marina.
Good protection from anything S or the W. N, NW, NE , E is not good if over 15 knots. You'll stay secure but you'll take your lumps.
Great dinking/exploring, great kyaking, good swimming, great beach walking, fine for dogs. Extremely dark and quiet and night.
One of our favorite harbors. A little tricky at the entrance (at low tide) , line up the greens and favor the starboard side of the entrance channel. Follow a local if you can if a first timer.

You're covered most of it quite well. There is also good clamming on the bay side of the entrance. When you enter the inner harbor (past the building on the spit of land to port) it tends to get pretty shallow. If you can come in on near high tide that would be a good thing, or follow a local. I usually swing out to the middle for deeper water and head on to the marina.

I have followed the markers to the inner harbor and have not been in any really low water and I am a 4ft draft boat. Just give Taylors Island (the spit with the cabin on the port side) a wide berth and you will be fine.
By the way that is another place that is now accessible via dinghy. On the anchorage side of the island there is a dinghy dock and you can get out and walk around.

Actually if the marina bound boats have dinghys that might be a great spot for a "cocktail" hour one day.

Matt , we signed up today felt good making a July reservation on a cold Feb day. We will be there Fri and Sat nights. Nancy at the marina said the absolute lowest spot on the entrance is 5 1/2 feet at mlw.
We were in Essex 2 years ago in our 28, look forward to coming back.

Well, I just heard that our Yacht Club has scheduled our biggest event of the year for the same weekend...again! :(

So, I'll most likely do the same as last year and head up Thursday and leave by noon on Saturday. I'll have to fly solo since Kat is heavily involved with "fire pit" duties all day Saturday.

I know from above that John and Marcia will be there early. Anyone else?

Looks like Colleen and I will be taking Legacy to CT around the same time as the Rendezvous so we'll try to schedule it in. We're visiting her family cottage in Guilford, CT so the timing might just work out. Went there last year and had a blast. Anchored at Joshua Point and then spent a couple of days at a Brewer's Marina in Branford.

I'm all set. Checking in on Thursday, hoping to leave on Sunday but I may have to take off early again. We'll see.

Really feel like the boating season is cranking up!
